Plans to give tougher punishments to people convicted of cruelty to animals have been welcomed by officials in Kent.
The government wants to increase the maximum sentence from six months to five years.
It has been welcomed by the RSPCA, which describes the county as a hotspot for animal cruelty.
It comes as Sittingbourne resident Lewis Fox was jailed for 14 months for killing several pet hamsters.
