Kent brothers on Sunday Times richlist

Kent brothers Peter and Roger De Haan slipped five places in the latest wealth league although their assets of £800m stayed the same.

The Sunday Times Rich List 2012 shows them at 92nd spot (87th in 2011).

The overall conclusion of this year’s list is that in an age of austerity, with many ordinary folk feeling the pinch, the nation’s richest have become richer, with combined assets of £414bn,

Roger De Haan, who sold the family’s Folkestone-based Saga holiday and finance business for £1.35bn in 2004, has been investing substantial sums in his home town. He has developed the Creative Quarter, the Folkestone Triennial and a massive town redevelopment.

Sir Mick Jagger, who grew up in Dartford, is at 395th with wealth of £190m, the same as last year but down from 364th place last year.

Peter Cullum, founder of Maidstone-based Towergate Insurance is at 197th, (down from 178) but his assets of £450m remain the same.

David and Jacqueline Gold, who lives in Kent and runs the Ann Summers sexy lingerie chain, are 310th (£250m) - down from 232nd, with wealth down £90m.

The richest man in the country is steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal (£12.7 bn), with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich third with £9.5bn.
