Kent's reaction to Theresa May's resignation as Conservative leader - and who they want to replace her

Theresa May has announced her resignation.

She's confirmed she's stepping down as Conservative leader on the 7th of June, but says she'll stay on as Prime Minister while her party chooses her replacement.

The announcement follows a meeting with the man who represents her backbenchers - who've been very critical of her updated Brexit plan.

A leadership contest will take place next month to decide who will take over the job.
