Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has offered new deals to five of last season’s squad.

But Hessenthaler admits the deals may be lower than the players expected.

Kevin Maher, Andy Barcham, Chris Palmer, Adebayo Akinfenwa (right) and Joe Martin are all players Hessenthaler is keen to see help his squad for next season’s promotion push.

Hessenthaler, who released eight players yesterday, said: "We’ve offered terms to the other players but there has been a reality check in football and those players we’ve made offers to won’t be on the same terms as before."

Those players being offered contracts are expected to be giving Hessenthaler a decision next week.
