KMTV food show Kent Cooks has been nominated for the 2019 RTS Southern Professional Television Awards, earning the station its first ever nod from the world's oldest television society.

The show, featuring Bake Off star and Broadstairs resident Chetna Makan, has been shortlisted in the Single Factual Entertainment Programme category.

It'll be going up against ITV Channel Television's CSI Sports Awards and BBC South's Isle of Wight Festival at 50 show, with the winner announced at a ceremony at Winchester's Guildhall on Friday 8 March.

"We're all absolutely over the moon," said Series Producer Cameron Tucker.

"I spoke to Chetna earlier and she's really chuffed with the nomination. The whole team put in so much time, energy and creativity into the production. We are all immensely proud.

"It's also a testament to the station on the whole. We've been on-air a little more than 18 months so to get shortlisted alongside some of the region's most established broadcasters shows we're right up there with them."

In the episode put forward, Chetna visits Thanet farm Provenance Potatoes before cooking up Bombay Style Potatoes in her kitchen. The team are currently developing a full series.

Deputy Channel Director Andy Richards said: "Kent Cooks is exactly the type of programming that we're looking to develop with KMTV.

"What we love about the show is it showcases Kent's fantastic produce and gives viewers a chance to see what's being made on their doorsteps.

"We hope it's the first of many collaborations with the brilliant Chetna, and we're very proud to earn our first shortlisting with the Royal Television Society."
