Kent's top attractions according to TripAdvisor to visit over the bank holiday weekend

TripAdvisor has produced this top 10 list of things to do in the county based on the the percentages of five star reviews received. So if you're stuck over what to do this long weekend look no further.
1 Canterbury Cathedral
Possibly the most prestigious building in the south of England. It is the Mother Church of the worldwide Anglican Communion and seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury and is designated a World Heritage Site. Visitors can also learn about Thomas Becket who was murdered in December 1170 in the cathedral. The site has received 70% five star reviews of a total 6344 reviews.
2 The Viking Coastal Trail
In the Isle of Thanet it promises scenic views of the English Channel, a great activity for those who love walking or cycling. The trail runs around Thanet, but if you want a short taster try the sea wall walk from Margate to Reculver via Westgate-on-Sea and Birchington. It had 48% five star reviews with 32 people leaving comments.
3 The Royal Military Canal in Hythe
Originally dug to guard the area against the threat of invasion, today the canal is surrounded by beautiful greenery rich with history and heritage and full of flowers in spring. It is a peaceful spot for walking or fishing, or just stopping for a picnic. It received 63% five star reviews of a total 31 reviews.
4 Dover Castle
An iconic English fortresses that has defended Britain for nine centuries. Visitors can climb the great tower, enjoy great views over the channel and explore the castle then go deep underground into Dover’s White Cliffs to see the secret wartime tunnels. The castle enjoys 73% five star reviews of a total 5490 reviews.
5 The Shell Grotto in Margate
Around 4.6million shells cover the grotto walls in a network of passages. According to legend the grotto was discovered by accident in 1835 by a young boy after a hole opened up in the ground. Whatever the true tale it has 57% five star reviews of a total 1122 reviews.
6 Leeds Castle near Maidstone.
Currently celebrating its 900th year the castle was once a palace used by Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon. It offers heritage, history, stunning grounds and adventure play grounds for children to burn off some energy. It received 62% five star reviews of a total 4403 reviews.
7 The White Cliffs of Dover
Most famous as an iconic landmark, the white chalk face is symbol of home and war time defence. They also offer stunning views, walks a wealth of wildlife and when that's done you can visit the National Trust tea rooms. The spot received 70% five star reviews from a total 2533 reviews.
8 The Lower Leas Coastal Park, Folkestone
This sits in Folkestone on the English Channel. Divided into three zones, one for flowers, one for a free large adventure area and another for the amphitheatre so it is fun for all generations. It has 73% five star reviews of a total 934 comments.
9 Whitstable Town Centre
Vibrant with food, music and shops and being so close to the seaside is what earned this location its ninth position. It has 52% five star reviews from 816 reviews.
10 Viking Bay in Broadstairs
The curved bay is the town's main attraction and is a sight to see when the weather gets that little bit warmer. It can also be dramatic on stormier days. It received 64% five star reviews of a total 782 reviews.
