A suspected drug user found dead in Kent has been revealed to be the grandson of the former Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey.

It was reported today that 24-year-old Simon Day, who body was discovered in the home he shared in London Road, was a heroin addict.

Lord Carey, who now lives in Newbury, Berkshire, and his wife, Eileen were said to be "very upset by the death of a dearly loved grandson".

Mr Day was a former pupil of Archbishop's School who later studied at the University of Creative Arts.

But he was trying to make a career in the music business and was the lead singer in a local unsigned band called The Liaisons.

He is thought to have died from an overdose on New Year's Eve but his body was not found until two days later.

His funeral is at the St Mary Bredin Church in Canterbury at 11am on Tuesday.
