Commuters were delayed this morning when a lorry thought to contain more than a dozen illegal immigrants was stopped on an M20 exit slip road.

Kent Police closed a lane of the London-bound carriageway at J8 for the A20 at Leeds Castle.

Officers stopped a truck at the scene at around 7.45am.

A force spokesman said 13 people were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.

They were taken into custody and transferred to Dover to be dealt with by the UK Border Agency.

The lane of the M20 was re-opened shortly after 9am.
