A 25-year-old man has appeared before a court charged with raping a woman at Victoria Gardens, on Fort Pitt Hill, Chatham, in the early hours of Sunday, May 20.

Arunas Simaitis, of Grosvenor Avenue, Chatham, was remanded in custody when he appeared before magistrates in Medway.

Simaitis, a Lithuanian national, was aided during the hearing by an interpreter. He is now due to appear before a judge at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, June 11.
