Gillingham should now be a team for others to fear, believes boss Andy Hessenthaler.

The Gills ended a run of six games without a win by beating Torquay 2-0 at Priestfield on Saturday. It put the club right back in the running for a Division 2 play-off spot.

Hessenthaler said: "We have had a rough time and people said they were playing us at the right time, but maybe now they will be playing us at the wrong time.

"We have got a bit of confidence back and are dangerous. We can cause major problems for teams.

"Hopefully we can take a lot of confidence from Saturday and take it into Tuesday night, which won’t be an easy game."

The Gills face lowly Hereford on Tuesday at home and follow that with a trip to struggling Plymouth on Saturday. A busy schedule sees another team at the wrong end of the table, Barnet, visit Priestfield next Tuesday. With six points to make up on the last play-off side and a game in hand, things are looking a lot brighter for the Gills now.

Hessenthaler said: "We are not going to give up on this season because we have had a bad spell. We wouldn’t do that. We have to stay positive. A couple of wins can change things. Let’s now go and get a win on Tuesday."

Hessenthaler had his players in on Sunday and added: "We are not going to rest on our laurels. We were in on Sunday again and there were a few eyebrows raised, because we had won, but we are in because Tuesday is another massive game for us. I will look after them when I can but they know how important Tuesday is to us."
