Despite the soaring temperatures Dartford runners all managed to complete the London Marathon - with sunburn being the most serious injury sustained.

Former boxer Ian Honeywood, of Main Road, Sutton-at-Hone, completed the 26.2mile course for the sixth time, and said this year was "the worst ever".

Finishing in just under five hours, he said: "It was so hot and I got really sunburned, but I managed to get round."

Terence Hackman, a 49-year-old from Pentstemon Drive, Swanscombe, reached the finish line in his first attempt at the London road race in five hours and 11 minutes.

He raised £1,500 which he will split between The Friends of Craylands School, where he is a governor, and charity Children With Leukaemia.

Mel Watson was running for the MS Society and, despite finding the heat incredibly difficult, finished the run in under six hours.

The 33-year-old from Temple Hill said: "I was hoping for about four and a half hours, but it was too hot."

She raised £1,156 for the charity.
