Martin Allen inststs that Gillingham couldn't afford former Barnet striker Izale McLeod even if they wanted him

Martin Allen has distanced himself from any move for last season’s League 2 hot-shot Izale McLeod.

Allen was manager at Barnet during the latter stages of last season where McLeod finished the season as the division’s joint leading scorer, hitting 18 goals.

McLeod (pictured) left Barnet at the end of the season and is a free agent but a number of clubs are chasing his signature.

But Allen appeared to end any debate about the merits of Gillingham making a move, admitting: "We can’t afford him."
