A shop assistant was attacked by masked raiders who stole a till and its contents.

The men, armed with a hammer and a metal pole, threatened and assaulted the employee at Westlake Stores, Victoria Road, Margate, near to St John’s parish church at about 10.45pm on Friday.

Kent Police said the robbers, who were both wearing balaclavas, made off in an old-style red Peugeot 405.

The victim, who was in his 30s, was taken to the town’s Queen Mother Hospital where he needed stiches for a cut to his head, thought to have been caused by a hammer blow. He was released after receiving medical treatment.

Witnesses should contact Margate police station on 01843 231055 or Kent Crimestoppers 0800 555111.
