A new special edition Mazda MX-5 `Venture Edition' roadster has been announced in a limited run of 800 units split two ways, to include 550 2.0-litre hard-top models and 250 1.8-litre soft-tops.

This is a luxury special edition, packed with high-end equipment including heated brown leather seats, a Sanyo TomTom sat-nav, climate control and even cruise control, which is the first time the system has ever been factory-fitted to a 1.8-litre MX-5.

The Venture models are based on the existing 1.8i SE and 2.0i SportTech models but add the luxury equipment on top of the standard spec.

While both cars will be available in the familiar Metropolitan Grey Mica paint, two colours unique to the edition will be on offer: Radiant Ebony Mica and Crystal White Pearlescent.

Mechanically the cars are very similar. Aside from the hard roof and different engine, the only major difference is that the 2.0-litre car, which at 7.9 seconds is two seconds faster to 62mph than the 1.8, has a limited-slip differential to provide more traction out of tight corners.

If buyers can find a 50% deposit, all MX-5s can be bought on a 0% interest scheme over three years.

The soft-top will cost from £18,995 on the road and the hard-top can be delivered ready to go for £22,285.
