Mechanic celebrates 100th birthday at Brands

A racing fan celebrated his 100th birthday at Brands Hatch's Formula 2 race.

Motorsport enthusiast George Veasey didn't hesitate when it came to choosing the venue for his party.

Family and friends gathered in one of the circuit's hospitality suites overlooking the racetrack.

Mr Veasey's motorsport links date back to when he was a mechanic preparing an Austin Healey for racer Lyn Reece at the Kent circuit.

An engineer by trade, he was a watch-maker in the 1930s and when war broke out he worked on the milk tankers which used to deliver milk to London.

After the war he moved to Henley's Jaguar where he was their vehicle tester once the cars had been serviced.

George said: "Brands is in my blood and I've stayed loyal to this place. My life is wonderful."
