People in Kent are being warned to brace themselves for heavy snow this afternoon and overnight into Saturday.

More than 100 schools will remain shut today, and Southeastern will again run a reduced service.

A yellow warning for snow and ice will remain over the county throughout the day, with icy roads and further drifting of fallen snow predicted.

Southeastern says staff are continuing to work around the clock to run as many services as possible.

It will continue to run a revised timetable today and tomorrow so it can provide a more reliable service for commuters.

This will see reduced services on certain lines and the closure of some stations and changes to the times of the trains that will run.

Replacement bus services will be running on the following lines:

• Medway Valley line
• Sittingbourne to Sheerness
• Faversham to Dover via Canterbury East

The advice commuters are being given is not to travel if possible, especially this afternoon.

If your journey is essential, then try to leave earlier as heavy snow is forecast.

Temperatures for tomorrow are forecast as -1C with snow some predictions of snow falling in the morning.

Bitterly cold winds could reach up to 19mph.

A spokesman for Southeastern, said: “The forecast is for heavy snowfall on Friday afternoon and overnight into Saturday, and our staff will continue to work around the clock to run as many trains as possible”

“We will continue to run our modified timetable tomorrow and on Saturday to provide a more reliable service for our passengers.

"This will mean reduced services on certain lines, the closure of some stations and changes to the times of those trains that are running.”
