With just 12 months to go until the new Mid-Kent College campus in Gillingham opens its doors to pupils, the buildings are beginning to take shape.

The site, located at the Lower Lines on Prince Arthur Road, will replace the Horsted and City Way centres in Chatham and Rochester.

The £86 million project, being undertaken by Kier Build, will be completed in April 2009 and staff will spend the summer moving into the new classrooms.

The builders have introduced innovative construction techniques to ensure the work will be finished in time for the start of term next year.

The new campus will be able to accept 30 per cent more students than are currently enrolled at the existing sites, and will include purpose-built facilities such as plumbing workshops and training kitchens.
