Gillingham defender Matt Lawrence will be at the club next season after triggering a new contract due to making a certain amount of appearances last season.

Lawrence, who was runner-up for the club's player-of-the-year award, joined the club last summer from Crystal Palace and started 42 games.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler said: "I’m delighted he is staying for next season.”

The club have also taken up the option of extending the contracts of youngsters Dean Rance and Connor Essam for another season.
