A NEW supermarket in Bromley has been granted a licence to sell booze.

The new Tesco store on Homesdale Road will be able to sell alcohol until 8pm from Monday to Saturday and until 4pm on Sundays.

The licence was granted by Bromley council despite the objections of some of the local community who felt that the licence would fuel crime and public nuisance in the area.

Owners of a nearby off-licence complained they already suffer from anti-social behaviour outside their shop and that the problem with troublesome youths would get worse.

In a letter to the council, Mr Hussain, who runs Sufia’s Off-Licence, said: “We have had to have the PCSOs and police to come out and disperse these youths. Our CCTV system has recorded the youths behaviour kicking doors, cars and windows, as they moved further up the road to try their luck at other off-licences and shops further on.”

After granting the application, licensing bosses said that digital CCTV cameras had to be installed while alcohol must not be stored or displayed within three metres of the entrance to the store.
