National radio show host Nick Ferrari has thrown his hat in the ring to become the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Kent.

Mr Ferrari, who was speaking during his LBC show this morning, was discussing the "incompetence" of PCCs when he came up with the idea.

The 59-year-old said: "I'll tell you what I'll do. I've worked it out. If I'm allowed to do this legally, the next time they come up, I'll stand in Kent.

"I bet I could do that in the county of my birth. I'm thinking aloud here. I might do that.

"I might become the Police and Crime Commissioner for Kent."

He joked that if he were to get the gig on his first day he would tell people to nick the villains or face the sack.

"Day one, get all the senior people together, 'right you stop all this virtue-signalling cobblers, painting your finger nails and wearing high-heeled shoes'."

During his 7am-10am show he questioned the need for Police Crime Commissioner's, saying: "They all earn £85,000 a year, irrespective of where they are. This is why the idea doesn’t work, It was one of David Cameron's more ridiculous ideas although they wasn’t short of them, was they?

"The turnout of the last general election was 69% the turn out for the PCC in Essex was 12%, the turnout for south Yorkshire was 14%."

Kent's current PCC is Matthew Scott, who was elected in 2016.
