With three goals from three appearances, young forward Jordan Obita is doing just what he had hoped.
The 18-year-old striker, on loan from Reading, helped the Gills to three points with two goals in the 3-0 win at Cheltenham on Saturday, no doubt impressing his parent club.
England youth international Obita, pictured celebrating his second goal with Dennis Oli, said: "I have come here for experience. To have three goals in three games, I am really enjoying it.
“I took the move because Gillingham are pushing towards the play-offs. I am really enjoying it here."
Obita had already spent a month on loan at Barnet, but just a day after returning to Reading he was hot-footing his way to Plymouth to make his debut for the Gills.
An appearance off the bench was followed by a first start and first goal against Barnet four days later. He missed the next game, with tonsillitis, but was back with a bang on Saturday.
His loan deal runs until March 31 but he is reluctant to commit himself any further with Reading chasing a return to the Premier League.
“I have done really well so far and if I don’t get in the team there (at Reading) then I could extend my loan here," he said. "I will see how it goes until the 31st.”
