Kent primary school places: when will they be announced and how do you appeal?

Parents across Kent and Medway will finally find out on Thursday which primary or junior school their child will be attending in September.

Many face a nail-biting wait to discover if they will get their first-choice place - or whether they will be given their second or third-best option instead.

The results will be sent by email on Thursday and can also be accessed online.

School attendance figures are up

It will bring to an end a four-month wait for parents, who had to submit their preferences in January.

Here is a guide to how the allocations will be announced.

If you are unhappy with the school place you've been offered, you can appeal to attend any of the schools you named in your application.

Kent County Council recommends you still accept the place your child has been offered.

This will not affect your appeal and will guarantee your child has a school place if you are unsuccessful.

If your appeal is successful you must remember to tell the school you were originally offered that you no longer want the place.

In Kent you can appeal between 16 April and 18 May 2015 to guarantee that your appeal is heard by 20 July 2015. Appeals made after this date will be heard within 40 school days of 20 July or 30 school days after being made, whichever is the later date.

You can appeal by completing this form and emailing it to appeals@kent.gov.uk

More pupils are excluded in Medway than any other part of the South East

A hearing will let you explain to an independent appeal panel why you think your child should be given a place at the school and lets the school explain why it could not offer your child a place.

Appeal hearings usually take 30 minutes and are held Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm.

In Medway, appeal forms for each school will be included in the offer email along with details of the address to submit the appeal to.

In addition to appealing, you can also ask to go on a waiting list for a school.
