Coronavirus deaths in Kent have continued to fall but the proportion occurring in care homes is on the increase.

New figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show care home fatalities related to Covid-19 made up 40% of the overall figures recorded in Kent up to May 1.

At least 55 people died from coronavirus in the county's care homes during the week ending April 24. This accounted for 30% of the total figure.

Last week, that number went down to 50. Although the number of cases are falling, this accounted for almost 40% of all Covid-19 deaths recorded in that seven day period.

Figures paint a similar picture nationally with care homes death accounting for 40% of all coronavirus fatalities in England and Wales during the week of May 1.

So far in Kent, at least 894 people have died from Covid-19.

The area with the highest number of recorded deaths is Medway with at least 132.

Thanet is second with at least 100 fatalities.

Tunbridge Wells has the lowest number of recorded deaths with just 35, followed by Tonbridge and Malling at 36.
