Assistant manager Barry Ashby has vowed that Welling will not get carried away by their recent good form.

The Wings have moved up to third after winning six of their last eight league games, losing just once.

Halfway through six season-defining matches against fellow play-off hopefuls, Welling have seven points in the bag.

But, speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 win at Chelmsford, Ashby warned: “These lads are keeping their feet on the ground. They know it's not a finished job yet.

“They want to improve and they want the club to go forward as well.

“There was a little celebration afterwards (at Chelmsford) but then we calmed down and have moved on to the next game. It's an old cliché but we just take every game as it comes.

“We learnt some valuable lessons from last year when we tailed away a bit. We have a young team but they have that experience from last year and I think they've taken it on board.”

Reflecting on the victory at Chelmsford in a game of few chances, Ashby said: “It was a great win. Chelmsford are up there with us for a reason, they've been consistent over most of the season so to do the double over them is pleasing.

“I didn’t feel at all jittery at any stage of the game. The back four who started and the back four who finished did extremely well.

“We know we can score goals, we know we are dangerous, so it was a case of keeping it nice and tight. As an ex-defender, it was great to come away from home win 2-0 and keep a clean sheet.”
