Plea after sheep are savaged

A DISTRAUGHT woman whose sheep had to be shot after being savaged by a dog is making a plea for witnesses to the attack.

Jayne Stevenson, who owns a smallholding between Sandy Lane, West Malling, and Church Road, Offham, arrived to tend to her sheep on Friday morning to find them covered in blood.

The sheep had apparently been attacked by a dog. A vet called out to the animals had to destroy six of them.

Mrs Stevenson, of Constitution Hill, Snodland, said: “I arrived there at 8.30am and the sheep were all lying down, distressed. There were huge footprints in the mud. They obviously belong to a very big dog.”

She said neighbours neither saw nor heard anything and added: “We have got signs up saying dogs must be kept on a lead. It was either someone walking their dog early morning or last thing night, or a stray dog.”

She added: “My other sheep were in the barn waiting to lamb. Thank goodness, I brought them in.”

Anyone who saw or heard anything is asked to contact Jayne Stevenson on 07990 655118.
