A teenage girl has been attacked while walking down a secluded footpath in Luton Recreation Ground.

The 17-year-old says she was pinned to the ground by a man. He only ran off when her mobile phone rang.

The incident happened between 8.30am and 9.30am last Wednesday .

The girl told police she was walking through the park in Ash Tree Lane, Chatham, when she sensed she was being followed.

She speeded up her pace, but stumbled and fell over.

The man then held her down which prevented her from getting up.

At this moment her mobile phone rang and her attacker ran off.

The man, aged 40-50, was around 5ft 7in and slightly overweight.

He had grey, balding hair, droopy eyes and yellow uneven teeth.

He wore black trainers and a blue-buttoned pinstripe shirt.

Det Con Steve Paine, from Kent Police, said: “We know there was a woman wearing a pink tracksuit and walking a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in the recreation ground, who was approached by the girl.

“We’re keen to hear from her as she may have information that will be helpful to this investigation.

“Clearly this is a worrying incident; local neighbourhood officers have been notified and will be paying attention to the area.

“We are also advising people to be aware of their own personal safety and to remain vigilant when walking in secluded or unlit areas.

“If people would like to know more about crime prevention techniques, they should contact their local Neighbourhood Watch Office.”
