The Homebase fire

Police will be at the site of Larkfield’s Homebase fire today, a week after a blaze destroyed the shop.

Kent Police officers will stop shoppers and ask them if they remember anything about the blaze which took place last Saturday, May 1.

Officers will also be at B&Q in Larkfield where a second fire took place and the B&Q store in Maidstone where a third incident was reported to police.

Kent Police's Det Supt Mick Judge, head of major and serious crime said: 'We are continuing our appeal for anyone who was at any of these stores who may have seen anything suspicious around the time of the three incidents, to contact police. Any information you have may prove vital to our investigation.”

Benny Dighton, 27, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted arson with intent to endanger life and one offence of burglary at a school in Maidstone. He has appeared before Maidstone magistrates and been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
