Police are investigating after a Gillingham fan needed medical treatment when a Barnet player smashed a ball into the crowd in frustration.
The Bees' Michael Hector kicked the ball into the Rainham end as Gills scored in the 76th minute to take the lead during Tuesday night's match at Priestfield.
The ball hit a man in his 20s in the face, leaving him with a bloody nose. He was given medical treatment at the ground. It is unclear if he later went to hospital.
A witness said the ball hit the man "straight in the face, spilling blood everywhere."
Officers spoke to Barnet FC after the match and Kent Police spokesman confirmed they are investigating.
A spokesman for Gillingham FC said they informed the referee about the incident.
He added: "We are very sorry it happened. We are trying to trace the person who was hurt."
