An MP has demanded the Met Police be "held to account" for the "aggressive police action" during a vigil for Sarah Everard last night.
Scuffles broke out at the front of a crowd of hundreds in Clapham as police surrounded a bandstand covered in floral tributes to the 33-year-old, whose body was discovered in Ashford.
At one stage, male officers could be seen grabbing hold of several women before leading them away in handcuffs, to shouts and screams from onlookers.
It has provoked a furious backlash.
Now Damian Collins, MP for Folkestone and Hythe, has blasted the Met over its actions - and comments made after the event.
He tweeted: "Appalling scenes in Clapham last night of aggressive police action at the vigil for Sarah Everard and a justificatory statement from the Met using the language of the abuser to its victims over the years - it’s your fault, you made us do it.
"They need to be held to account for this."
