Council chiefs claim the wintry weather won’t mean more potholes on Kent’s roads.

After January’s big freeze more than 31,000 potholes were filled in according to highway chiefs.

It cost £6.5 million over six months with contractors resurfacing 122,100 square metres of road.

Now the snow and ice has returned, there are fears the potholes could return too.

But Kent County Council’s cabinet member for environment, highways and waste, Nick Chard, said that won’t be the case:

"We made an enormous investment last summer and we did an enormous amount of repairs to our roads, but not just any old repairs, they were absolutely first class quality repairs… I’m pretty confident those potholes that we’ve repaired will stand up to the conditions we’ve had so far."

"Because we’ve used a very quality product, in terms of repairing the potholes, we certainly don’t expect the same level of potholes as we did this last spring."
