A FIVE-month-old dog has been left with horrific injuries after being attacked by another dog.

Sadie, a border collie puppy, is lucky to be alive after she was viciously attacked by a large, husky-type dog at the Strand at Gillingham.

Stephen Alderson, 33, said the dog, which did not appear to be with an owner, was running wild in the area.

The bones in Sadie’s leg were shattered and she may be crippled for life after the attack.

Mr Alderson, of Thornham Road, Twydall, Gillingham, said: “From nowhere, this huge dog came out and bit hold of Sadie’s leg. I was desperately kicking it and trying to get it off her but there was nothing I could do. It was awful. She was so afraid. Eventually the dog let go and I scooped up Sadie and ran with her, screaming for help

“A man stopped and gave us a lift to the vet. She was in so much pain and I just hope that she will recover. I’m so grateful to the man who stopped to help us.

“Another woman told me that the same dog had tried to attack other dogs and that it had been seen running around covered in blood.”

The dog is described as an Akita. It is a large, strong and powerful dog that was originally kept by Shogun warriors in Japan to hunt and herd. They have a natural dominance over other dogs, so unless properly trained, will attack.
