A man who died on railway tracks between Tonbridge and Paddock Wood two months ago has finally been identified.

The family of 50-year-old Andrew Bell, from Tunbridge Wells, have now been informed of his death.

Mr Bell was struck and killed by a train near Postern Lane in September.

His identity remained a mystery and prompted police to release an artist's impression (pictured left) as part of a public appeal for information.

DI Ashley Cooper said: "I'd like to thank the public for the valuable information received and the media for assisting with the appeal.

"It was thanks to local media, who published the appeal and drawing, and members of the public who came forward with information which allowed us to identify the man.

"We were then able to inform his family of the sad news."

British Transport Police officers were called to the railway line at about 7am on Saturday, September 29 following a report of a man's body on the line.

Medics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

BTP said the death was not being treated as suspicious and they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

A spokesman confirmed a file was being prepared for the coroner and an inquest into Mr Bell's death will be opened shortly.
