Rail depot would be bigger than KIG

A huge road/rail freight depot, bigger than KIG, could be built near Borough Green.
Developers have approached councils about the plans for a 259-acre site – equivalent to about 73 football pitches.
KIG, the proposed freight depot near Bearsted, would be 250 acres.
The Borough Green depot would stetch between the M26 Motorway and West Malling to London railway line, and house huge 17m high “sheds” that would dwarf nearby Platt Industrial Estate.
Early proposals have been shown to Tonbridge and Malling council and parish councils.
Council officers say that the plan is being put forward as an alternative to the Kent International Gateway depot.
Cemex UK and Borough Green Sandpits - who together own much of the land earmarked for the depot - have been named as the main developers behind the scheme.
Cllr Harry Rayner, chairman of Wrotham Parish Council, said: “The Platt Industrial estate would fit three times into one of the large sheds they’re proposing."
