A man said to have plagued British Transport police with telephone calls has been bound over by magistrates.

David Orchard, 46, who lives in the Station House, at Adisham, near Canterbury, has been a long-time campaigner on railway safety.

He has erected his own CCTV security cameras at the rural, unmanned station and has supplied CCTV pictures of youngsters dicing with death on the railway line to the media and British Transport Police.

He appeared in court on Monday to deny a charge of needlessly and persistently causing annoyance and nuisance to a police inspector.

Mr Orchard said he was only reporting the on-going problems with crime and vandalism which he claims are being ignored.

But he agreed to a 12-month bind over after Canterbury magistrates heard he had called British Transport Police nearly 50 times in three months.

He was ordered not to telephone British Transport Police for 12 months but can still contact the local police if he has any concerns.
