Two houses have been struck by lightning as storms become the hallmark of our last bank holiday before Christmas.

Many were kept awake on Sunday night by a dramatic thunderstorm, and was captured near Deal, by photographer Sean Ward.

Earlier this morning a house in Aylesham was hit by lightning, causing a hole in the roof and a water leak.

Several neighbouring homes in Hyde Place also lost power and UK Power Networks were called to restore connections.

Fire crews had to carry out salvage operations at the home affected. They were on the scene between 10am and 10.30am.

Last night a house in Ashford was struck by lightning causing a hole in the roof.

Crews were called to Manor House Drive, Kingsnorth, just before midnight and the two-storey home also had damage to a first floor ceiling.

Crews used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no signs of fire and helped the make the scene safe.

A structural engineer from Ashford Borough Council attended to assess the damage to the roof and brickwork.

In Ramsgate fire crews had to help people living in a flooded bungalow and pump out several neighbouring homes after a water main burst outside.

Crews used a range of specialist equipment to pump water from the property between 2am and 6pm and helped the occupants salvage as much of their belongings as they could.

A Southern Water engineer attended and isolated the main supply. The people living in the bungalow will need re-housing and a team from the British Red Cross were also in attendance.

Met Office forecasters say morning rain should clear across the county between 10am and 11am.

And from 1pm onwards more rain is set to lash Kent.

That should last until about 5pm - and wet conditions will clear first in the west of the county, meaning east Kent will be last to see the back of the bad conditions.

Scattered showers are forecast for this evening from 7pm onwards.
