RAM-RAIDERS smashed their way into a a lobby at the Bluewater shopping complex at Grewenhithe in a failed attempt to tow away a cash machine.

The bungling hooded raiders reversed a maroon Volvo into Marks & Spencer's in the early hours of Monday at about 12.45am.

They then attempted to drag away the ATM (Automated Teller Machine) but failed to prise it away from the wall.

The attempted theft did not stop Marks and Spencer from opening up this morning.

A Marks & Spencer spokesman said: "We are working with the police in their investigation and we were open as normal."

The spokesman added the store had done everything in its power to minimise disruption to customers.

The car, stolen from Essex, was found abandoned a mile away close to the Bean roundabout.

Anyone with information should telephone North Kent Police on 01322 283 154 or Crimestoppers, free and in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
