Dr Navin Naran Zala , 62, accused of indecent assault against a teenager.

A retired doctor has appeared in court charged with four counts of indecent assault against a teenager.

Dr Navin Naran Zala , 62, of Marling Way, Gravesend, was remanded on conditional bail until May 28 by Dartford magistrates.

The alleged offences are said to have happened between May 1988 and May 1991.

Zala gave no indication of his plea in relation to three charges of indecent assault against a girl under the age of 14, and one charge of indecent assault on the same girl when she was under 16.

He must comply with bail conditions which mean he can make no contact with the alleged victim and that he can have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18.

Dr Zala ran the Marling Way surgery, next to his home, for many years before he retired and closed it last August, leaving 1,700 patients to find another GP.

They were reassigned to other surgeries by the West Kent PCT.
