River rescue aborted after distress signal traced to A2 taxi

A Gravesend RNLI crew was scrambled to search the river near Dartford on Tuesday after reports of a personal distress beacon going off just after 10.30am.

The search was called off by the Coastguard an hour later when the beacon signal was traced to a river pilot in a taxi on the A2.

His faulty beacon had gone off by accident.
