Rochester and Strood Conservatives are still arguing about who will represent them as their candidate at the next General Election.

Members cut the list of 10 candidates to four on Sunday afternoon, with two women and two men still battling for selection.

They are

Jacques Arnold, the former Gravesham MP, who has been working for the constituency party since his last unsuccessful bid at re-election.

Katie Bourne, East Sussex chairman of the Conservative Women's Organisation,which aims to encourage women to get on the Parliamentary List,

Dorothy Luckhurst, wife of the University of Kent's Professor of Journalism, Tim Luckhurst, who is a former editor of The Scotsman

Mark Reckless, the Strood councillor who has twice narrowly lost the seat to the Labour rebel, Bob Marshall-Andrews

Among those discarded during the day was Cllr Craig Mackinlay, the former UKIP parliamentary candidate for Gillingham.

The successful candidate will be unveiled at a constituency meeting in Wainscott tonight.

Labour has chosen a Medway councillor, Teresa Murray, to fight for the seat after the rebellious backbencher, Bob Marshall Andrews, announced he would stand down at the election.
