A SCULPTURE by a Brenchley artist has been nominated for this year's Rouse Kent Public Art award. Judy Webber designed the Learning Curve to adorn the entrance to West Kent College in Tonbridge.

Ms Webber is a mature student in her second year of an HNC visual arts course at the college in Brook Street. She has set up her own sculpture business at her studio near her home at Pearsons Green. She uses an innovative technique developed in Spain to carve her designs from polystyrene. These are then coated with fibreglass and completed with a bronze finish.

She said: "I am absolutely thrilled to have been nominated. A lot of people have responded positively to Learning Curve and said how much they think it enhances the college entrance. This nomination makes the many hours of work even more worthwhile."

The eventual winner of the award will receive £2,000 in prize money.
