There is confusion about whether a second person in Kent has tested positive for COVID-19 in Kent.

A tweet by the Department of Health and Social Care said there were 12 new cases in England this morning, pushing the total number of UK cases up to 51.

The patients are from Kent, London, Hampshire, Northamptonshire, Bury, Wirral, Greater Manchester, and Humberside.

Eight had recently travelled from Italy, one from Germany, one from Singapore, one from Japan and one from Iran.

But Public Health England say there was an error and there has not been a second case.

The first Kent case was confirmed yesterday, after a staff member at a business at Maidstone Studios tested positive for the deadly condition.

Recently returning from Italy, the employee was in the building last week and tested positive yesterday evening.

Meanwhile, a school in Canterbury has written to parents saying a family member "associated with our school community" was diagnosed with coronavirus.

Parents of pupils at the Canterbury Academy were alerted to the news this morning.

The person suspected to have contracted the virus is now self-isolating for 14 days.
