A CROWN Court judge has called for enquires into a Chinese medical company following the conviction of a doctor for sexual attacks on two female patients.

Dr Guang Jie Li, 42, is in custody waiting sentence having been convicted at Canterbury Crown Court of sexual assault in October 2004 and assault by penetration in February 2005.

Dr Li lived and worked at the Chinese medical centre in Margate High Street and at the time of the assaults worked alone.

He denied the offences when on trial at the crown court saying at the time he was focusing on improving his English and learning more about medicine.

Judge Anthony Webb expressed concerns about the firm behind the medical centre, Everwell Chinese Medical Centres, who had 28 branches in the UK and recruited practioners from China and undertook to get work permits for them.

Judge Webb said there was a public interest element in the background to the case and there were very serious concerns about the nature of their practices and the operation they carry out. He also warned Dr Li he faced possible deportation.
