Barrie 'Swampy’ Ridley from Queenborough beat 80,000 people to make it on to the Channel 4 hit show Shipwrecked as part of the Shark tribe. In this weekly column, he shares his experiences with Emma Grove

Sunday’s episode of Shipwrecked saw new arrivals, Jon and Brie, fighting it out to stay on their chosen island.

They had both come over to Shark island as hundred per cent Tigers, after Shark Lauren wrote a note and left it on the pontoon for the Tigers to read.

It said that she would always remain a Shark and declared her loyalty to the tribe – which wound the Tigers up as they thought it was malicious.

All this blew up while Sharks Keris and Faith were on Tiger island and they had to endure hearing all the bad words said about their tribe.

This happened when Jon and Brie were there as well, so they immediately took a dislike to the whole Shark tribe, especially Lauren.

However, after arriving on the island and confronting the Sharks, they put their difficulties aside and went on to enjoy their time there.

At the beach party, Jon picked Tigers and Brie wanted to stay on Sharks, and they reached a stalemate on the decision.

This hadn’t happened before, and a Shipwrecked coin was produced – and fate decided they would be Tigers.

Jon was picked to stay and Brie was sent to Hawks.

Barrie said: “When Brie and Jon first came to us, neither of them were interested and the first thing Brie did was ask: Who is Lauren?

“At the beach party it only showed them talking for a bit, but we were actually waiting for about 45 minutes. We knew that if they picked Tigers, Jon would stay, and if they had picked us we would have picked Brie – she is very funny.

“We were gutted that we lost them especially when it came down to a coin, of all things.”

Barrie also reveals that not all the Sharks were impressed with Lauren’s idea of writing a note. They read it before it was put on the pontoon, but Barrie said it didn’t seem that nasty at the time.

He added: “We couldn’t see the point in the letter and we warned her what it would be like for Keris and Faith to have to listen to what the Tigers said.”

At the end of the episode the new arrivals came ashore and this week they are twins, Sarah and Rebecca.

Barrie revealed last week that the twins cause controversy when they announce that if one of them is sent home, then the other one will leave as well.

After spending equal time on both islands, the twins pick the Tigers, and Rebecca is chosen to stay – but they don’t stick to what they said and Sarah does go to Hawks.

However, Barrie gives us a sneaky peek and reveals that Rebecca nominates to the Sharks in the future, as she feels she made the wrong decision.

Barrie says: “They are really nice girls and really funny. Their luxury items are wigs and false teeth. We didn’t know which island they were going to pick right up until the beach party, as they kept changing their minds all the time.”

As Shipwrecked is now drawing to a close, Barrie gives us a few teasers to think about.

Next week there are three new arrivals which really sends the tribes into a spin as they have no idea what is going on.

They also receive their first letters from home, which Barrie said was very emotional.

Finally, Nick, who is the survival expert from Hawk island, is the final new arrival and the Hawk tribe will at last find out what their role is in choosing who wins Shipwrecked 2008. It’s set to get exciting in the final weeks.
