Shooting tragedy: son dies in hospital

SHOT: Farmer John Paine

A 45-YEAR-OLD man who shot his father on their Romney Marsh farm and then turned the gun on himself has died in hospital in London.

Michael Paine killed his 78-year-old father at Coldharbour Farm in Washington Lane, Old Romney on Thursday.

John Paine was a Shepway District Councillor and well-known potato farmer. The family owned the Romney Marsh Potato Company based in New Romney, which is a major supplier for Tescos.

Michael was flown to hospital by helicopter following the incident. He died at 2.15pm on Saturday. A postmortem is being held at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford at 3pm today.
