Simon Cook wants the chance to finish his career at Kent.

The 34-year-old medium pacer is preparing for his seventh season with the county with a trip to Hong Kong, a regular destination for him since playing there for MCC a few years ago.

Cook, who moved from Middlesex in 2005, is out of contract at the end of the season, but is keen to stay on. He said: "It would be the ideal situation, but the county are keeping their options open which I fully understand.

"I have achieved just about everything I wanted to since I moved from Middlesex, and have really enjoyed it.

"It’s a different era now, with a lot of restructuring going on at the club, but who’s to say that in another two or three years we won’t be in a position to dominate the game again."

Cook bowled more than 300 overs in the championship last summer – only Amjad Khan and James Tredwell bowled more – taking 34 wickets in the process.

Director of cricket Paul Farbrace admitted it was not until after the season was over that Cook’s efforts were fully appreciated. He said: "Cooky was our warhorse last season, and just phenomenal.

"I think on reflection he was our most under-rated player, and we didn’t give him enough praise and credit for what he did."
