SIX Medway Invicta players helped Great Britain’s korfball squad secure fifth place at the World Championships in Holland.

Husband and wife Dave and Corrine Buckland, Rob Williams, Scott Brooker, Charmange Francis and Sarah-Jane Hubbard were all in the squad that made the final stages.

Great Britain won their first preliminary games over Hungary and India before beating Germany in the first match of the final pool.

But defeats against Holland and Chinese Taipei meant they faced Portugal in a fifth-sixth place play-off.

Britain were behind for long spells but went ahead in the last 10 minutes.

They looked to be heading for victory when they established an 18-15 lead but two late goals from Portugal set up a tense finale.

After the match, coach Kees van Buren heaped praise on Invicta’s husband and wife team.

She said: “They played really great against Portugal. It was especially good to see how well Corrine played.”

Holland won the final, which was held to celebrate 100 years of the sport, with a 22-9 win over Belgium.
