TWO popular schools have been told they can accept an extra 30 pupils each in September. Giving Walderslade Girls' and neighbouring Greenacres an extra form of entry will mean relief for some parents who were desperate to send their children to those schools.

A change in boundaries by council officers meant some Walderslade and Wayfield children were destined for Medway Community College instead. At a meeting on Monday night, Medway councillors agreed to put the matter to an independent adjudicator. It was expected he would take up to three weeks to make his decision but the news came through yesterday.

Walderslade Girls' head teacher Pamela Conibeer is delighted that pupils have finally been allowed to attend the schools they chose but was saddened the decision had taken so long and upset so many families. She said: "It's a shame the way it has all happened but we are now looking towards making the changes to accommodate a new class of 30 in September."
