Police believe a teenage boy could hold vital information about an arson attack on a block of flats which caused more than £600,000 worth of damage.

A building of new apartments in Milne Road, Willesborough, was destroyed in the huge blaze which was started around 9pm on May 10.

Forty firefighters fought the blaze, which spread from the block of six flats to a neighbouring house, causing between £600,000 and £700,000 damage.

The blaze was on part of a 36-unit development of affordable housing, unoccupied and still under construction.

This week Ashford police renewed their appeal for witnesses to the incident.

Det Con Eric Norman said: “I would particularly like to contact a boy, aged between 14 and 16, who spoke to one of the officers at the front entrance of the scene during the fire.

“The boy described a person who he had seen running from the area. I believe this may be important evidence and ask that he contacts South Kent Police.”

Two local youths, aged 13 and 16, who were arrested in connection with the incident have been bailed pending further enquiries until June 25.
