Court results: The latest cases in front of Kent's magistrates

Alcohol thieves, perfume shoplifters and drink drivers are featured in this week's court round up.

Margate man stole vodka

Kevin James Anthony Moss, of Trinity Square, Margate, stole two bottles of vodka worth £30 from a supermarket in Northdown Road, Margate, vodka worth £18 from a supermarket in College Walk, Margate and another two bottles of vodka worth £39 from the same shop in Northdown Road on another occasion.

Magistrates sentenced the 27-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £87 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Tablet thief sentenced

Homeless Ryan Gregory Brook stole a computer tablet from a council office in Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone.

Magistrates sentenced the 27-year-old to 60 days in prison.

Drink driver given unpaid work

Josh Chapman, of Harebrook, Ramsgate, drove a Volkswagen Golf in Ramsgate Road, Sandwich, and gave a blood test of 113 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrammes.

Magistrates banned the 22-year-old from driving for two years and ordered him to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Ashford man spared jail

Lee Stag, of Bybrook Road, Ashford, handled a stolen BMW 520D.

Driver banned

Yvonne Bridget McGroddy, of Wellington Road, Deal, drove a Nissan Micra in Canada Road, Deal, and gave a breath test of 112 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes. She also failed to stop the vehicle after a road accident where damage was caused to another vehicle.

Magistrates banned the 46-year-old from driving for 24 months and ordered her to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. She must also pay £600 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Perfume thief strikes

Nur Abdu, of Spring Lane, Canterbury, stole perfume worth £395 from a shop in Elwick Road, Ashford.

Magistrates sentenced the 24-year-old to four weeks in prison. Because the offence was committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence, the overall length of his sentence is 12 weeks. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Teen given unpaid work

Youssef Essahly, of Christchurch Road, Ashford, stole credit and debit cards from an address in Lucilla Avenue, Ashford.

On a separate occasion he also used bank cards belonging to someone else in Ashford, to make a gain of goods worth £19.78, in Dover, to gain a train ticket worth £8.30, goods worth £8.77 and goods worth £13.99, and in Canterbury, attempting to gain goods worth an unknown amount, goods worth £4.55 and goods worth £4.78.

As well as this he used a bank card belonging to someone else in Canterbury, to make a gain of goods worth £6.75.

Magistrates ordered the 19-year-old to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £195 compensation and £85 costs.

Woman disqualified from driving

Karen Shelmerdine, of Gordon Road, Margate, drove a Honda Civic in Canterbury Road, Margate, and gave a breath test of 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 32-year-old from driving for 20 months. She must also pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Canterbury man ordered to hand over licence

Gheorghe Lisandru, of Squire Avenue, Canterbury, was in charge of a Vauxhall Vectra in Rheims Way, Canterbury, and gave a breath test of 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes. He also drove the vehicle with no insurance.

Magistrates banned the 27-year-old from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £355 fine, £85 costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

Jail time for man in 20s

Nathan Lucas, of Rough Common Road, Canterbury, stole perfume worth £69 from a shop in Guildhall Street, Canterbury.

He also committed the following offences on separate occasions:

Meat thief behind bars

Carl Anthony Smith, of no fixed address, stole meat and a shopping basket worth £115 from a shop in Station Road, Westgate-on-Sea.

He also took beauty products and washing tablets worth £40 from a shop in High Street, Margate.

Magistrates sentenced the 36-year-old to 84 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Break-in suspect given community service

Cree Paul Charles Peterson, of Beechings Way, Gillingham, attempted to break into a garden centre in Capstone Road, Gillingham, with the intent to steal. He also had a crow bar in his possession, for use in connection with theft.

Magistrates ordered the 29-year-old to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £303 compensation, £900 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Another break-in charge

Luke Hatcher, of Cross Street, Rochester, attempted to break into a garden centre in Capstone Road, Gillingham, with the intent to steal. He also had gloves and masks in his possession, for use in connection with theft.

Magistrates ordered the 24-year-old to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £303 compensation, £900 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Faversham driver taken off the road

Nicholas Davis Alexander Curtis, of Upper Brents, Faversham, drove a Volkswagen Polo in Forbes Road, Faversham, and gave a breath test of 73 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 31-year-old from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £300 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Paul Grewal, of Canal Road, Gravesend, failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Northfleet.

Magistrates banned the 44-year-old from driving for 24 months. He must also pay £400 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Jumper thief gets 60 days in prison

Kieran John Humphreys, of Macmillan Gardens, Dartford, stole a jumper worth £30 from a shop in The Orchards, Dartford.

Magistrates sentenced the 33-year-old to 60 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Man banned for not giving breath test

Carl Rodney Lynsdale, of Orion Road, Rochester, failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Rochester.

Magistrates banned the 49-year-old from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £200 fine, £50 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Unpaid work

Damien Trevor Frank Broomhall, of Carnation Road, Strood, produced cannabis and had a quantity of cannabis resin on him.

Magistrates ordered the 30-year-old to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Thief in jail

Billy Austin, of Cavell Way, Sittingbourne, stole chocolate, coffee pods, cakes and meat worth £54.65 from a shop in Chalkwell Road, Sittingbourne, and he stole 15 packs of steak and a bottle of soft drink worth £81 from the same shop on another occasion.

Magistrates sentenced the 24-year-old to 90 days in prison. He must also pay £135 compensation.

Shoplifter given suspended sentence

Aaron Lee Flack, of Bromley Close, Chatham, stole groceries worth £65 from a service station in Watling Street, Strood, groceries worth £40.68 from the same service station, meat and other groceries worth £142 from the same service station and coffee worth £39.39 from the same service station.

He also failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 39-year-old to 150 days in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must also pay £287 compensation and a £50 fine because the offences were committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence.

Sentence passed down to Chatham man

Mark William Toulson, of Meadow Bank Road, Chatham, damaged an inner fire door worth £153 at an address in Meadow Bank Road and he had a knuckle duster and a metal bar in the shape of a truncheon in Newham Street, Chatham.

Magistrates sentenced the 29-year-old to 201 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.
