Police in riot gear arrested a man after a disturbance yards from a police station last night.

The man broke windows at Bouverie Road West, Folkestone, and threatened people nearby.

He was arrested after a long stand-off.

Local photographer Max Hess, who took the picture above, said: "Police in riot gear were outside a house just yards from Folkestone Police Station.

"The road was sealed off for four hours while the police apparently tried to get an occupant to come outside and give himself up."

A spokesman for South Kent Police said: "A man was reported as breaking windows at an address, behaving in a volatile manner and threatening members of the public.

"Officers in protective gear attended and attempted to speak to the man.

"However he went back inside the flat and continued to behave in an agitated manner."

Police were first called at around 6pm and a negotiator tried to calm the 46-year-old down.
